As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to surge in the country, the Bureau of Public Safety is calling on the business owners to put in place measures to help control the spread of the virus in their workplaces.

Speaking to Citi Business News, Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada, indicated that as a lot of people spend significant hours of their day in their offices, systems have to be put in place to prevent a spread of the virus in such areas.

“The impact of COVID-19 on the bottom line is very real. Businesses must take the preventive measures very serious because if one person contracts the disease in your workplace you must understand that, as a corporate entity there will be actions that you have to take and in some cases, some businesses have had to shut down entire departments and in other cases the entire company. So it is absolutely important that  as  the cases  continue to rise as the entire country is uncertain  as to where we stand even with the onset of the new variant, we take  the COVID-19 preventive protocols very seriously at the workplace.”

During the peak of the pandemic, several companies were compelled to shut down some of their departments while others closed down entirely when cases of COVID-19 were recorded on their premises.

Some business as a preventive measure adopted a shift system to reduce the number of their staff present on their premises at every given time.

Others opted to switch to a work from home policy entirely to prevent a likely spread in their offices.

Ghana is currently experiencing an increase in COVID-19 numbers with a more than 1000 case counts after recording a drastic decline months ago.
