McDan NextGen tennis begins

Ten juvenile tennis players selected from various clubs in the Greater Accra Region have begun a weekly training at the tennis arena of the Accra Sports Stadium under the McDan NextGen Stars initiative.

The programme, designed to prepare the players adequately for future international tournaments was put together by the Ghana Federation of Tennis (GTF) and sponsored by the Chief Executive Officer of the McDan Shipping Company, Dr. Daniel McKorley.

The players, aged 12 to 14 years, are Lameck Bagerbaseh, Amos Asante, Yakubu Leah Junior, Richard Okine, Desmonf Ayaba, Kenneth Adjokatse, Michael Dosoo, Bright Nortey, Ishmael Dowuna and Raphael Nii Ankrah.

According to the president GTF,Mr. Isaac Duah, the players were selected based on their performances in various competitions held over a period of time.

He said theInternational Tennis Federation (ITF) coach, Noah Bagerbaseh, together with GTF coaches Yahaya Macauley, Fred Egyir,  Bernard Ashitey Armah, Henry Quansah and Doe Adjani are the resource persons for the weekly training programme.

“This is a laudable initiative and the leadership of the GTF, as well as the board, are elated about it because it will prepare the children for an upcoming triangular tournament to be played with our neighbours, Togo and Benin,” Mr. Duah said.

Dr. McKorley has been supportive of Ghana tennis and recently paid rhe federations affiliation fees of $17,038 to the ITF.
