President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assented to the three revenue bills passed by Parliament on the last day of sitting before Easter.
The bills are the Excise Duty Amendment Bill 2022, the Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill and Income Tax Amendment Bill.
They were passed on Friday, March 31 by a 136-137 majority decision much to the surprise of supporters of the National Democratic Congress.
The party’s supporters had called in their MPs to reject all the bills as well as a constitutional instrument proposed by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC).
While the latter was prosecuted, the former failed by one vote.
The three revenue bills are expected to aid government in raking over GH¢4 billion a month to boost the economy.
Over the weekend, Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah told Accra-based Joy FM that the bills have been given assent by President Akufo-Addo.
They are almost certainly laws to aid in the country’s revenue collection efforts.
