FDA registers 10 face masks/face shields for use in Ghana

The Food and Drugs Authority has registered and approved 10 face masks and face shields for use in Ghana.

The 10 face masks and face shields are Heritage Face Mask, Joeritz Face Shield, Lily of the Valley Face Mask, Notill Face Shield, Otech Biotech Face Mask and Pacific Face Mask. The rest are Sixteen 47 Face Shield, Sixteen 47 Face Mask, Studio AK Face Mask and the Swift Face Mask.

The Public Relations Officer and the Head of Communications of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Mr James Lartey told Graphic Online that all the 10 face masks/face shields are re-usable.

The list of registered face masks/face shields copied to Graphic Online comes a week after President Akufo-Addo advised all Ghanaians to wear face masks

List of registered face masks and face shields;

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has directed the use of face masks in all public places where it may be difficult to maintain social distancing. It has also recommended that Ghanaians use only FDA-approved masks.

However, where these are not available, the MoH advises that homemade masks made of the following materials or specifications may be used:

a. JAVA or WAX cloths sewn triple-layered and stringed with side loops to be worn as hooks to the ear

b. Calico inlaid with fabric stiffener and inner covered with side loops to be worn as hooks to the ear.

c. Homemade masks with strings to be tied behind the neck or head
