Kasapreko Collaborates with GIZ to celebrate World AIDs Day

Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in collaboration with Kasapreko Company Limited, organized a health screening for residents of the Kasoa community to raise awareness on HIV and COVID-19, thus the ‘Be Double Sure’ campaign. The exercise was scheduled to take place on December 1, 2022, to commemorate World AIDS Day with the theme “Managing HIV/AIDS in the era of COVID-19.

The exercise contributed to preventive health education and reducing the disease burden of people in catchment areas. It also focused on diagnosing and treating diseases with general medical advice by the medical team. As part of contribution to the exercise, Kasapreko Company Limited supported a medical staff orientation and coordinated the District Health Directorate to mobilize COVID-19 vaccines and other medical equipment for screening. They also coordinated, mobilized, and raised awareness among community members on health issues related to the high prevalence of HIV and other noncommunicable diseases in the district.

The event, held at Odupong Kpehe School Park, was attended by members of the Kasoa community, assembly representatives and task force members, schoolchildren, students, People Living with HIV (PLWH), and other stakeholders. including PROLINK GH. Kasapreko Company Limited made sure to supply participants with refreshments during the exercise.

Activities at the event included COVID-19 vaccination, HIV testing, and counselling for the people of Awutu Township, Senya East. There were theatrical performances (skits) to show ways to prevent and treat HIV and a float for the main streets. People who took part in the activity were educated on the risks associated with HIV/AIDS and Covid-19 and encouraged to follow all safety measures to protect themselves from diseases.

In total, 241 persons were screened with 136 being youth. The exercise served a large part of the public and participants also received free medication to treat other identified health problems.
