Ghana’s economy grew by 6.3% in the second quarter of 2025, provisional data released by the Ghana Statistical Service in Accra today, September 10, 2025 has revealed.
The expansion was fueled by expansion in the Services sector, which recorded a 9.9% growth rate.
The Services sector also accounted for the largest share of Ghana’s economy and contributed the largest as well.
The Services sector contributed “the most” in terms of the overall growth posted in the second quarter of 2025, as well as accounting for the largest share of Ghana’s economy, ending the second quarter of this year.
Main drivers of quarter two growth
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, the main drivers of the second quarter growth, were information and communication which grew by 21.3 percent.
Education grew by 16.6 percent while Health and Social Work grew by 14.6 percent.
Other personal service grew by 11.3 while Finance & Insurance grew by 9.7 percent.
Real GDP increased by 1.4 percent in second quarter of 2025, from 1.6 percent in the first quarter of this year.
Ghana’s nominal GDP reached GH¢313 billion in the period under review, a significant increase from GH¢244.7 billion in the second quarter of 2024. In real terms, GDP rose to GH¢47.4 billion from GH¢44.6 billion last year. Non-oil GDP growth was particularly strong, accelerating to 7.8 percent compared to 5.7 percent in second quarter 2024.
Agriculture sub-sector GDP estimates
The sub-sector which expanded the most under Agric was Livestock and the sub-sector which expanded the least was Fishing.
The Livestock expanded by 5.9 percent (year-on-year) and 1.2 percent (quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted) in second quarter of 2025 compared to the Fishing sub sector which had a growth rate of 0.9 percent (year-on-year) and 0.2 percent (quarter-on quarter seasonally adjusted).
Industry sub-sector GDP Estimates
The sub-sector which expanded the most under Industry was Electricity and the sub-sector which contracted the most was Mining and Quarrying. The Electricity sub-sector expanded by 6.7 percent (year-on-year) and 1.8 percent (quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted).
The Mining and Quarrying sub-sector contracted by 1.8 percent (year-on-year) and 0.5 percent (quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted).
Services sub-sector GDP estimates
The sub-sector which expanded the most under Services was Information and Communication and the sub-sector which contracted the most was Real Estate.
The Information and Communication expanded by 21.3 percent (year-on-year) and 4.8 percent (quarter-on quarter seasonally adjusted) in second quarter of 2025 compared to the Real Estate sub-sector which had a growth rate of -1.8 percent (year-on-year) and -0.5 percent (quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted).
